so a couple of us here at work are considering getting a colocated server.
I'm paying $20 a month at the moment for the girl and I's websites. A colo server is about $100 a month. so if I can find 4 other people willing to split it, I break even. If I can find more than 4 I come out ahead of where I am now.
Anyone interested in doing some shared webhosting?
I'm happy to handle the tech stuff, although if you want to get involved you're more than welcome.
We'll split the costs by simply dividing it among the people involved, so the more people the cheaper, and we'll have FULL control over the server on a nice phat pipe.
(i'm so not even half-a-geek... i read that as "chocolated server"... bad 'thoughtstoo. bad bad bad. and funny.)

Hmm I would say go here or there .. but I'm a sysadmin for a hosting company. Heh .. I can put my own stuff in our office if I want to.
Oh yea and a word of advice... One admin per box. Never more than one ever. Or you will run into something like "Hey that shouldn't be configed that way?!?!?!!?"
Hence the reason I declined to have more than user access to your test machine.
If you want I could work a quote for ya. Possibly something like 75$ a month, unlimited bandwidth, 10 - 20 ips etc etc. Thats if you provide the machine though.
I just got a really good deal on a big reseller account actually, cpanel, quota 5gig with full 5gig nightly backup, 250gb transfer, unlimited everything. I'm happy with that for the price I got, and they can transfer it to a dedicated server if I need that later.
but $75 for unlimited, that's wicked. ^_^

Heh ... and its free for me.
I was thinking about starting Suburban Ninja up again...
Only I think I'll go the $8.25 per month route for superkickass hosting. :-p
how about $5 a month for 200mb, unlimited ftp/email/subdomains, ssh, Cpanel, forums/chat, virtually unlimited transfer, and heck, even frontpage extensions if you want em?
and I'm flexible on the disk quota for you if ya need it. ;o)
