ganked from many, djluminal first though.
Ask me about something on my interests list.
1) something about which you know nothing and would like to learn more
2) something about which you can't figure out why I might be interested in
3) any other question about oddness therein.
We're getting hammered at work and I need a distraction, so ask away!
a two-fer, as i'm not getting hammered at work... at least, not the way i'd prefer.
Blacksmithing: it rawks. I like making things out of iron. I've had very little chance to do it though. speaking of making things old-skool style, I need to add glassblowing to my list.
wearing skirts: they're comfy. Especially when playing sports. less crap floofing around your legs. I don't know why everyone doesn't wear them in the summers.
aside from the really funny looks you get.
blacksmithing is WAY cool, k'tigger. as is glassblowing. again, with the proposed Trip to Wheaton Village in Jersey to see them blow glass.
i get funny looks when I wear skirts, too. glad i'm not the only one.

I don't think it's on your interest list (I can't remember, now that I've gone to post this), but I'd really like to hear about your woodworking and carving ideas and motivations. I always thought that was a supercool interest of yours. :)
I just dig wood.
(don't read too much into that)
ideas? motivations? none. just the pleasure of a well finished wood surface in an eye pleasing shape.
I'm a simple man of simple pleasures.

Any preference of wood or tool (damn, don't read too much into that one either) :)
Or are you happy with a knife and an old chair leg?
well i obviously have preferences as far as wood goes.
Mahogany is a beautiful wood and is fairly soft for carving, so it's one of my favorites.
Bi-color ebony is fucking beautiful, but expensive, and hard as a rock.
Also depends on the project.
Flame Maple is probably my favorite lighter colored wood.
tools: gouges. they're basically like curved chisels. i love working with them, but you can't use em for everything.
every job has it's tool.
flame maple is amazing! whoever had the idea to start using it as a top for guitars (probably Gibson, from an historical perspective) deserves a beer or two at least. Have you seen some of the 10-top PRS guitars? Holy shit. I never thought wood could be as sexy as technology :)
