so maybe I'm petty, but I get the strong urge to throttle people who push already lit buttons in elevators.
What, it doesn't work unless YOU push it?
You have some special connection to that button, and need to caress it's sensuous curves?
before exiting the elevator, i push ALL the buttons.
i have issues with hearing people eat or drink. i will make Pie sit on the other side of the room and TURN UP THE GOSH DURN TELEVISION ALREADY BECAUSE I CAN HEAR YOU CHEWING. he tolerates me, but sometimes i think just barely.
ah, that's fine. I like doing that when I'm in a spiteful mood too, it's not what I'm pissing about.
as for the chewing thing, you're just fcuking nuts.
oh, i know it's not your peeve....
it pisses me off when waiting for the elevator and the button is lit and some squiggleass thinks he's got the touch to bring it down.
most of my pet peeves will warrant a "you're nuts" comment as i am, in fact, nuts.
The worst are people WHO WILL ONLY CHEW WITH THEIR MOUTH OPEN.
water go down the hoooooolllleee
I've written about the same peeve multiple times here! I hate it, because they think it'll magically make everything faster. Buttons don't work like that.
but not even the speed thing, they just push it once.
to make sure it's lit? I mean WTF?
it makes the door close faster!
now, come on, you and I know that Otis put that button there solely as a joke...
okay, the real answer: people like to click things!
buttons are for pushing and mouses are for clicking and "refresh page" is for hitting 4257864578 times :)
see, i've always been grateful we've had the expert button pushers around - if it takes that long after they fix our button pushing mistakes, then how long would it take otherwise for the elevator to arrive?

the more times I push it, the faster it'll go...
Agreed. it also helps if i sigh loudly and tap my foot.
I hate it too. It seems so pointless. The elevator doesn't keep track of it, you know. It doesn't go, 'Oh, five people want to get off on 5, but only one wants to get off on 4, so I'll close quicker.'

Pushing the buttons is fun. Some people don't want to be denied. Haven't you ever seen young siblings fighting with each other "NO I GET TO DO IIIIIITTTT!! MOOOOOMMMMMMMM!!!!"

In our elevators, pushing the button again DOES in fact make the door close quicker. I used to question it myself, but then I realized it was in fact true, because after you get in the elevator, there is quite a bit of a time delay before the door closes again. However, if you push the button after getting in it closes immediately...
Not sure if its the same in your building.
