I done hosed my computer by being a bonehead.
oops.
Good thing I've got me this here iFruit now.
Bah.
ooh, brainstorm! I can just grab me an external USB drive case, pull data off that HD using my iFruit, and save all my useful stuff that way. Now I just need to find an external USB drive case... maybe I'll see how late microcenter is open.
mood: blahblah

// what the hell were you doing?

// and what os were you running? make sure that your
// "ifruit" can mount whatever filesystem you have on
// your drive. maybe a linux/ppc livecd is in your
// future.

// or anger. or both.

um, was getting super fed up with my drivers on my gaming partition of WinXP.
So I ripped them all out, a little too thoroughly. Might have ripped out all my IDE controller drivers in the process, along with the AGP drivers, and a few other crucial hardware component drivers.
Tried to make windows fix it off the install disk, you can guess how well that worked. *snort*
Tried a liveCD, remembered that my motherboard needs custom ethernet drivers, and that I wasn't going to get on the intarweb so well without them.
Only have the one desktop around right now, couldn't slave the drive so well.

Bah.

iFruit is my iBook, running OSX (aka. BSD with a shiny GUI). It'll read just about any filesystem out there if I play with it enough. Turned out I didn't even have to, plugged in the drive as a USB device, found it instantly and pulled all my tasty data off it easy as you please.
(Have you played with OSX yet? it's a wicked sweet OS...)

In the process of reinstalling my desktop. Probably sticking with Fedora for the time being, as I'm at least mostly used to it

Well, I was going to offer you the use of my new firewire drive case, if you could wait until the weekend, but it looks like you don't need it anymore. Good for you!

Also, can i just say how disconcerting it is to come home from 4 hours of watching you in you in video form, to read a post about what you did today and realise that i didn't actually see you this evening? It sure feels like I did. My brain hurts.

(meh. I really need to get around to paying for my extra userpics again so that I can have my iHobbits icon back. I miss it and it's quite appropriate for this post. Bastards took away my 2 most-used icons. damn them!)

mmmm userpics. ;o)

No, couldn't wait 'till the weekend. Ran out to microcenter and got a USB2.0 3.5" external case (that happened to come with a 160gb hard drive, so I upgraded mine in the process), came home and popped my drive in there. Plugged 'er in to my ibook, and pulled all the data off.

Then put the new drive in my desktop, installed XP on it (going dual boot, but XP needs to go on first or it throws a shit-fit), did the millions of updates (6 reboots worth of updates?? you're kidding me...) that windows needs to run smoothly, and downloaded and burned Fedora Core3.

Which is where I'm at now. being at work, i can't do much more. ;o)

and today's my last day at this job! yay! can't wait to start zie new one tomorrow.

(hmm, I think I'll post that as an entry. hehe)

Out of curiousity, how much did the case and drive cost ya? (because I bought 160GB drive with my case too. though mine's firewire/usb2.0, because I needed the firewire for all the video editing.)

And that was from Microcenter? Weh. I will tell myself that it was the firewire that cost me the extra $30. (Also, I don't know the specs of the drive you got-- I think i specifically chose to pay a little more to get an 8mb cache.)

yeah, 2mb cache.
I'd have gladly paid another $30 for firewire and an 8mb cache.
