Pumpkin beer turned out ok, a little hoppier than we wanted (damned hop plug sludge), but still rather tasty. Give it until the end of the month in the bottle and it should be quite tasty.
But the porter that we just put into secondary...
That's going to be one remarkably tasty beer.
ah yeah, dark beer season is back!

Have a brown planned for tomorrow and hope to piggyback a robust porter on the slurry when I rack it a couple of weeks from now. I was disappointed to learn that ModernBrewer doesn't carry Crystal 80L, but am making do. I'm also thinking about attempting to recreate the apple wit before too long since it seems to do better for aging.
yeah, they only had crystal 20 and 120L when we went for porter ingredients (iirc). rather frustrating since we were looking for 60L.

I resorted to using chocolate malt, which is a very different animal. I'm half tempted to start ordering stuff online, especially since I can get organic grains and hops and some of the more uncommon varietals.
Plus, I don't see any reason why the EKG should be either unavailable or sickly looking. You'd think that everyone uses cascade exclusively.
Where are good places to order from online? Much as I love wandering in to a shop and collecting the materials, that may be a direction to head for more specific tinkering or precise replication of brews we've particularly liked.
ya know, maybe we should just time our brewing concordantly and order stuff together. It'd be way cheaper probably.
Course there is the problem of milling the grains... I do so enjoy using modern brewer's mill. ^_^
