My favorite present I gave were the art supplies to my daughters, they adored them. My favorite present I got was my engagement ring.
...kung fu? Explain more!
we both belong to a kung fu school in chinatown http://www.winchellpcwoo.com/
our uniform is our school tshirt and kung fu pants, but he wanted a traditional uniform to use around the house and stuff.
Ahhh, hung gar.
I've been doing hung gar for about 5-6 years now.
Good style, though I prefer to not fight in so close.
cool! where are you located?
we've got a little northern influence, too, so some of the things we do aren't quite so close, but yah, a lot of it is very ...cozy fighting :P
Bowling Green, KY....not too much other traditional kung fu around here. About a 2.5 hour drive to find anything, actually.
Yeah, we have some influence from...everywhere. My sifu originally trained karate (goju ryu, I believe), then went one to learn a Wing Chun-based family style (about the only Wing Chun inspired animal system I've heard of), and developed his own stuff from it. We also have influences from Southern Mantis.
Oh, and we do Choy Lay Fut, too, though I avoid that for the most part due to a shoulder injury (sow choy + bad shoulder = bad).
I prefer fighting from further away simply because I have a really good reach....and while it's good to get in close and hit someone, I prefer to hit them from where they cannot possibly hit me without moving. ;-)
ah yah. you're in southland :)
it's warmer there tho!
nice. long arms, good reach is handy. ha. hand-y!
glad to meet another kung fu practicioner! ;)
We draw influences from EVERYTHING that we can.
Just last week I was sparring a girl and hit her with...a piledriver.
I can only do that because she's only about 112 pounds though.
Easy enough to lift that I dont risk droppage.
Favorite given: Neil Gaiman books to my teenage nephews ("Neverwhere" and "American Gods")
Favorite gotten: Toss up between the 6-bottle wine rack and the desk calendar of Bush-isms, both from my roommate.

I gave my wife the 4 disc Gone With the Wind uber whatever edition. She said it's the best pressie she's ever gotten. I was quite surprised. Of the stuff I gave her I didn't think it was the best.
I received no gifts on Christmas per my request. This was the first year that anyone listened. I hate getting gifts but love giving them. My mom did however just before Christmas get me a really nice Nike down jacket that I love. We were shoe shopping and I tried it on and liked it so she grabbed it and said Merry Christmas and bought it for me.

favorite given: sheet music for songs from Les Miserables with lyrics in French, given to my dad
favorite received: tie between The Eyre Affair (a novel I was interested in but did not specifically request) and a ring of my grandmother's
iRiver H10 20GB (I really hate the way it needs WMP to sync properly though (EasyH10 works, but then the genre tags don't work)
Given: The Big Lebowski
to my brother.
Recieved: For Christmas, a toss-up between Monty Python and the Holy Grail on DVD and a Le Crueset wok. For my birthday, a Le Crueset dutch oven. (Le Crueset = very heavy enameled cast iron cook-ware that is wonderful to cook with and also, from what I gather, rather expensive.)
You know, I was all excited that y'all were home... but now I worry that something has happened to you since then. Are you guys alive over there?
ya, we're alive and well.
We didn't wanna call you and risk waking you up, and we went out for dinner for a bit. Catch you tomorrow?
Guess it'll have to be. And no worries on waking me up-- honestly I'd rather the company than the sleep. =)
