anyone know how to find out what a renter was paying to heat an apartment that you're looking at renting?
oil heat if it makes a difference.

The easiest way is to ask the previous renter - if they're still in the apartment it shouldn't be too hard. As far as I know there isn't a public resource that will tell you.

sadly they're not.
I think it's public domain info, I know realtors can get it from nstar, etc.
I just have no idea how. and since it's oil I can't just call nstar and be like "tell me, bitches!"

Is there any reason you can't ask either the Landlord or Realtor?

landlord doesn't know, she's a friendly little old lady who was renting to the same people for 37 out of the past 40 years, so she's not up on the whole Tenants Questions thing. And the Realtor was meeting the landlord lady for the first time with us. So sadly, neither of them are any help.

I'm going to e-mail the Realtor guy and see if he can find that out for us. It's not going to break the deal, it's a sweet apartment for the price and we can wear sweaters if the cost is too high.

If it helps this winter we spent about $470 on oil heat - which granted this winter was a warm winter, although Lady R says last winter was about the same.

Per month or total? Because I think we used to spend like $300 per month at Manderley.

I wonder if you can call NStar.... Hey, the worst that can happen is they tell you no.

Although actually, nevermind, NStar doesn't do oil, and there's any number of oil companies they could've used.
