need some aesthetic advice, oh friends list.
At this link there are two images of coffee tables.
Which is more aesthetically pleasing, and thus should be constructed?
Any modification suggestions are also gratefully accepted. I'm on AIM as inthehandbasket right now.
(naturally prosicated has line-item veto power, but I'd like some opinions.)
this is for floor-style-eating as well as general coffe-table duties, so leg space is important. not sure how tall it'd have to be to make the full shelf option work...

the first one looks better, at least in diagram. the half shelf just seems kind of stuck there in space, plus i think you'd be likely to catch your shin on the corner if you were sitting next to it...
also: nice icon :)
Thanks, I like it a lot! might actually make it my default icon for awhile...
Yeah, I think i agree that the full shelf is better. I tried to figure out a better way to integrate the half-shelf thing, but just can't get it to fit in very well. :-/
also, see below comments re: leg space underneath.
huh. how tall is it supposed to be?
the half-shelf might actually work better on one end? spoils the symmetry, but i'm not sure that's a bad thing. and then you'd have usable space to sit at at one end, and shelf space as well? but i still think the whole-shelf looks better.
currently at 14", but that's just cause i don't have a ruler here to see how tall my knees are when I sit cross-legged.
*goes scouring the office for a ruler*
I like the full shelf the most.
Two panes of glass could give you the option of dynamic decorations such as sandwiching leaves or art or doilies in there. Heck, maybe even an ant farm or a recreation of an archeological dig! Woo!
Can you build it so that two can sit at it cross-legged on the floor without discomfort?
That's actually the idea, we usually eat on the floor with little folding tables, so this is both coffee and dining table for us. ^_^
I'm just worried about having enough space for legs underneath, and a usable shelf space, without the top of the table being too high to comfortably eat at, thus the half-shelf option was born.
I like the one with the full lower shelf.
but the legs are so much more elegant when they're taller... *sigh*
Then don't ask us, and make the one you want ;)
the problem is I agree with you, the full shelf is better. But the half shelf is more practical and makes the legs nicer.
thus, you see my conundrum. ^_^
I prefer the one with the full shelf. Also, it gives you that much more storage space for all the crap that living rooms seem to attract.
