Say "Whiskey Sour" and most people picture a drink with an umbrella and/or a dyed-red cherry.
2 oz Ardbeg Single-Malt Islay Scotch
1 oz fresh lemon juice
1 squirt Blue Agave nectar
Stir to combine (or shake)
Garnish with 1/4 frozen lemon instead of ice.
THAT! My friends. Is a true Whiskey Sour.
I always found Ardberg to possess some of the flavors that I like in Scotch, but not in the right ratios to make it an enjoyable drink. I can totally understand why you're mixing it.
If you haven't already, give the Macallan 12-year a try. It has more smokiness and bite than the Ardberg, but much less briny after-taste (which is part of what I dislike about the Ardberg). I tend to like very smoky Scotch, so I also enjoy Laphraoig. That one is sometimes a bit *too* smoky for most folks. I like to lie back and sip it in my imaginary peat bog.

Macallan's like "default" scotch to me. It's not great, certainly not bad, and is just sort of good.
I can dig Laphraoig when I really want the smoky, but I'd never splash out for a full bottle of it.
My favorite is one of the lesser known Islays, Caol Ila in the 12 year. The 18's good, just a little alcoholy for drinking neat.
Yeah, Macallan is my go-to Scotch. I keep it in the house for when I'm in the mood for a decent Scotch that I know I enjoy.
I don't think I've ever tried any of the Islays, I'll have to give them a shot (pun intended) some time.
Ah I see...I assumed that "Islay" was a brand, rather than a description of its birthplace. In that case, I have indeed sampled a few ;)
